Custom metadata is a great way to define fields in your dataset that are important to your organization. Examples include update frequency, agency ownership, or whatever is important to your org.  The sky is the limit! 

To update custom metadata, log in and go to Administration ==> metadata.  Here you can Define Custom Fields, Define Dataset Categories, and enter new fields that will be available for all your datasets, and even make some fields required for all new datasets.
