As part of our commitment to continually updating and improving the tools we offer to our partners, today we released a new set of features and updates for the Socrata for Public Finance applications. This period of work included significant updates to the three Socrata for Public Finance applications as well as the Admin Panel.
Open Budget
Configure Amounts by Year
Previously, in the Open Budget application, we only accepted a single Primary Amount and a single default Comparison Amount, which showed the same for all years.
Now, we’ve added in the ability to specially configure a certain year to show a different primary and default comparison amount. The most common use case for this functionality is when dealing with a combination of historical, current-year, and future-year budget data - often, agencies do not retain proposed budget information for prior years, do not yet have adopted budget for the current year, and do not have actuals for future years, making that one-size-fits-all approach less than ideal.
The added flexibility to configure amounts by year will make it much easier for administrators to tailor the presentation current-year and future-year budget information and deliver a more accurate and meaningful experience to their users and citizens.
Configurable Homepage
Currently, each Socrata for Public Finance application has its own separate homepage, and the breadcrumb in the Open Budget and Open Expenditures applications each lead back to the homepage for the respective site.
Now, in the administrative panel, users can define a custom homepage for their application, and choose to either minimize or hide the default homepage built into the application. This allows Socrata partners who are building separate homepages, like the great work in the State of Connecticut, to have their applications drive users back to that homepage, providing a more cohesive and high-quality experience.
Small Fixes
- Reduced font size on embeds to make them more readable.
- Added tooltip to embeds that appears on hover.
- Minor tweaks and bug fixes.
