Date & Global Filters

All data within Executive Insights is controlled by the date filter in the upper-left corner of the screen. Depending on the configuration, users can either select the fiscal year or date range that they would like to analyze, and all of the metrics within the application will update based on the selected date range.

Executive Insights also contains global filters in the upper-right corner of the screen that allow users to apply a common filter across multiple metrics at the same time.

All Metrics

The Overview section of Executive Insights consists of a series of metric tiles that can contain:

  • A "big number," or total number for the configured metric.
  • A default visualization, that provides an initial indication of the dimensions of the configured metric.
  • (Optionally) A Status indication, which indicates if a metric is on track or off track based on configured thresholds.
  • A description, which explains the nature of the calculation for the metric and what it means.

Bookmarks

The Bookmarks tab contains all bookmarks that the user has configured or that have been configured on their behalf. A bookmark is a personally curated view of a metric, which can contain any filters, projections, or other configurations that the user has selected.

For more information on bookmarks, see Creating a Bookmark in Executive Insights.

The Analysis Tab

By clicking on any metric on the Overview tab, the user will be taken to the Analysis tab, which enables an exploratory, multi-dimensional analysis of the selected data.

  1. Data Pivot
The information in the analysis tab is governed by the Data Pivot control, which allows users to select the topic area, the metric, and the dimension of that metric they would like to analyze. In this example, the user is looking at the Actuals vs. Budget topic area, the Actuals vs. Budget metric, and is breaking down that data by Function.

  2. Share, Export, and Bookmark Controls
At any point, users can either share a metric via email to another user, which will send them an email with a deep link to the current view and an image of the chart attached, export a metric to download a JPG image of the current chart, or bookmark to save and monitor the current view.

  3. Analysis Tabs
Metrics in Executive Insights can be analyzed in different ways, including a drilldown oriented Snapshot view, a time-based Over Time view, and a Details view that contains the detailed records that make up the metric, and the option to download those records into Excel. Some metrics may also have a geospatial Map view, or a Distribution view to see different analyses of the selected metric.

  4. Chart Selection
In the Snapshot, Over Time, Distribution and Map analysis tabs, some metrics have different chart options available to allow users to visualize data in different forms. In this example, the user can choose between a line chart view, an area chart view, and a cumulative "burnup" view.

  5. Breadcrumb
The Breadcrumb tells the user the total value for the current view, and adds additional levels as the user drills down into their selected data.

  6. Filters
Users can interact with pre-exposed filters, or select the Add Filters button to filter the current metric by the selected dimension. Users can filter for specific terms, or using "contains" and "does not contain" keywords, to filter down to the right data.

  7. View Options
By clicking on the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the analysis page, users can see the View Options for the current metric. View options allow the user to change different aspects of the currently selected chart, for example changing an over time chart from a Rolling to a Year on Year view, enabling a benchmark, or enabling projections.

  8. Projections
If enabled, users can select a Linear, Historical, or a "Prophet" Machine Learning-based forecast for their current metric.

  9. Categories
In the Over Time view, users can add any specific category from the currently selected dimension to the chart. For example, in this view, the user has "by Function" selected as their dimension, and can add additional lines to the chart that represent specific Functions from the data.

  10. Descriptive Sentence
All metrics in Executive Insights come with an automatically generated descriptive sentence that indicates the time range, filters, and last updated date for the currently selected view. This sentence is included in Exported or Shared images created by the application to provide context to recipients and other users.
