Note: Primer and the configurable header/footer are currently being released to customers on a rolling basis. A majority of Socrata Publica (Open Data) customers have already activated the new features, and Socrata Performance site administrators will begin to receive launch emails this month.
Socrata Primer Now Generally Available For Performance
We are excited to announce that Socrata Primer (formerly known as the Dataset Landing Page) is now generally available for Socrata Performance sites! We’ve listened to feedback to surface valuable metadata, guide users to the “right” experience, and make sure users see the best visualizations, maps, and views for any given dataset. That’s why we’re releasing Primer, which becomes the principal front-page experience for tabular datasets and external links moving forward. Primer:
- highlights the most commonly accessed aspects of each dataset and guides users to the experience which makes sense for them, quickly and easily;
- elevates dataset descriptions, usage statistics, tags, data types, and schema to the top;
- and showcases, by default, the most popular content built from datasets.
Primer is available starting this week for a majority of Socrata Performance sites.
Socrata Performance site administrators can activate Primer, along with the configurable header and footer, via the new “Site Appearance” Administration panel. If Admins have not configured and activated these features for their sites within one month of receiving the launch email, Socrata will configure and enable them automatically to ensure sites take advantage of the latest features.

Giving You More Control Over Your Site’s Appearance
As part of our drive to make Socrata Performance sites more configurable and self-service, we’re introducing a new mobile-responsive and admin-configurable header/footer. This header/footer enables site administrators to change and update their site’s logos, colors, copyright, navigational links, and more! It gives you more control over your site and empowers your team to update key items without needing to contact Socrata Support.
Starting this week, the configurable header and footer will be available for a majority of Socrata Performance sites.
Socrata Performance site administrators can configure, preview, and activate the header and footer through the new “Site Appearance” Administration section. If the feature is not activated within one month, Socrata will configure and enable it automatically to ensure sites take advantage of the latest features. We’ll use each site’s existing styles and Customer Success Managers as our guides.
