Automating Data Updates for Multi Layer Maps

Our latest method for creating multi-layer maps is efficient and powerful. It allows easy integration with various data sources through Gateways and supports automatic updates via configurable Schedules.

Important changes to legacy maps

If you were using one of our legacy imports methods for these multi layer maps, you will need to re-establish that automation using the process described below. Once your legacy Mondara map are migrated there will be a separate dataset on your platform for each layer that’s used in the Visualization Canvas map that you will need to re-establish automation on.

Getting started with multi-layer map uploads and automation

  1. Uploading Multi-Layer Files
To upload multi-layer files and create datasets, refer to the upload guide here.

  2. Creating New Multi-Layer Maps
For instructions on creating new multi-layer maps, check out this article or video tutorial.

  3. Setting Up Gateway Automation for Multi-Layer Maps
To configure Gateway automation on your domain....

    • Follow these steps to setup and configure Gateways on your domain and source data system
    • navigate to the desired map asset using the Catalog or Asset Manager.
    • Click “Edit” in the upper right to open the map draft.
    • Once in the map draft, click “Edit” in the upper right corner of the map
    • From the edit screen, find the first layer in the map that you would like to automate and click the link next to “source:” to take you to the dataset for that layer

    • Click “Edit” on the layer source dataset you just navigated to and choose “Replace” from the Add Data card

    • Choose “Connect to an external source” from the left hand menu

    • Select the agent you created when setting up Gateways

    • Choose the data source that corresponds to the layer you have selected by clicking “Use this data source” from the available data in the plugin

    • Review the changes, and publish the update to the dataset

    Setting Update Schedules

    • From the Dataset Overview page select the Actions button in the upper right corner of the screen and choose “Schedule Updates” to set an update interval for your dataset updates (see here for more info on schedules)

Repeat these steps for each remaining map layer to complete the setup.
