Getting Started with Executive Insights

What is Executive Insights?

Executive Insights is a self-service, configurable data analysis and dashboard product powered by Tyler Technologies. It displays key metrics as metric cards organized into dashboard tabs called collections. You can filter and drill into metric cards for more detail, then organize them into collections for different audiences across your organization.

The Name of Your Application

The name of your Executive Insights application depends on the Tyler data system it is connected to. For example, your application may be named "Performance Dashboard" if you use one of Tyler Technologies’ Public Safety products, or "Community Development Executive Insights" if you use Enterprise Permitting & Licensing.

Metrics and Collections

Executive Insights organizes related metrics into collections, which appear as tabs on the dashboard. Each collection contains interactive metric cards that display charts, maps, and other visualizations. Site Administrators can customize out-of-the-box collections and metric cards, restructure the dashboard, and manage collection access. Non-admin users can access only the collections and metric cards they have permission to view or edit.

Dashboard Filters

Use the Global data filter to update the date range for all metric cards on the dashboard. You can also enable a Comparison period to compare the selected date range with a previous period, the same period in another year, or a custom date range.

Explore Data in Metric Card Analysis Mode

Click on a metric card to open its Analysis Mode, where you can:

• Apply filters and pivot the data.
• View the data using different visualizations and apply visualization-specific options.
• Watch a metric, share a view, export data, or save a filtered view to My Views.

Curate the Dashboard for Your Organization

Administrators can use Edit Mode to customize the out-of-the-box dashboard for their organization. Changes made in Edit Mode become the default view for the collection's assigned audience.

In Edit Mode, you can:

• Apply collection filters to all metric cards in a collection.
• Add, remove, and rearrange metric cards.
• Save changes as the default view for your organization.
• Assign collection-based access to different audience groups.

Create a Collection

Create a new collection to organize related metric cards for a specific audience or workflow. New collections are Restricted by default and can be shared after they are created.

Manage Collection Access

Collections have two types of viewing rights:

Restricted – Only assigned users or roles can access the collection.
Open – All users on the dashboard user list can access the collection.

When sharing a collection, assign one of the following permission levels:

Viewer – Can view the collection and create personal views.
Collaborator – Can view, edit, and share the collection, but cannot delete it.
Owner – Has full control, including editing, sharing, transferring ownership, and deleting the collection.
