Introducing the New Data Embed Tool

The New Data Embed Tool for Simplified Sharing and Seamless Integration

We are thrilled to introduce the new data embed tool for the Data & Insights platform—a streamlined and intuitive way to share and embed datasets in external websites. Designed with ease of use and consistency in mind, this update ensures that embedded datasets deliver the same rich interactivity as users experience directly on the platform.

This enhancement also marks the retirement of the Social Data Player (SDP). Our goal is to provide a seamless transition to a more cohesive and user-friendly tool, empowering you to present and share data effortlessly.

What’s New with the Share and Embed Tool?

Unified Share and Embed Options
The new embed functionality is conveniently located under Actions > Share and Embed on the Overview tab of any dataset’s landing page. This central location brings all sharing and embedding tools together for a simplified workflow.

Enhanced Sharing Modal
The new modal offers two clear options:

  • Share Tab: Generate shareable links or share directly via email, Facebook, or X (formerly Twitter).
  • Embed Tab: Create embed codes with preset sizes or define custom dimensions for your unique needs.

Interactive Embeds for Better Engagement
The embeds deliver a full-featured, interactive data experience directly on your webpage or application:

  • Explore tabular data with sorting, filtering, column selection, pagination, and search.
  • Navigate back to the full dataset view on the platform for advanced visualizations, rich metadata, and API access using the View Source option.

Consistent User Experience
The new embeds mirror the look and functionality of the platform’s Data tab, creating a seamless and familiar experience for users—whether they’re engaging with data on your site or directly on the Data & Insights Platform.

Privacy and Viewer Settings

To embed a dataset, it must be set to Public. Datasets with restricted viewership settings, such as those limited to specific users or groups, cannot be embedded.

If you need assistance managing privacy settings or adjusting viewer permissions, refer to How to Change Permissions on Assets.

Please note that viewership settings can be updated at any time. If an embedded dataset's privacy setting changes—such as transitioning from Public to Private—the embed will display an error message providing guidance on how to resolve the issue. This ensures transparency and helps maintain a smooth user experience.

Migration of Legacy Embeds

We’ve designed the migration process for legacy Social Data Player (SDP) embeds to be as seamless as possible. All existing SDP embeds will automatically transition to the new embed experience with the 2025.1 Market Release.

What You Need to Know

  • No Action Required: The migration happens automatically. Existing embeds will render using the new tool without any disruption to functionality.
  • Preserving Functionality: Current embeds will maintain their core features, while gaining the interactivity and consistency of the new tool.
  • Optional Customization: You can update the existing iframe code if you’d like to adjust dimensions or settings, or use the Share and Embed function to generate a new embed code.

This migration ensures your embedded datasets stay up-to-date with platform improvements while requiring minimal to no effort on your part.

How to Use the New Embed Tool

  1. Go to the Overview tab of the dataset landing page.
  2. Select Actions > Share and Embed.

    a) Use the Share tab to generate a shareable link or share directly to social platforms.

    b) Switch to the Embed tab to create an embed code. Choose a standard size or define custom dimensions.

  3. In the sharing modal:
  4. Copy the embed code and paste it into your webpage or application.

Why This Change?

This update brings significant improvements:

  • Ease of Use: A simplified, consolidated workflow for sharing and embedding.
  • Consistency: A uniform experience for users interacting with data, whether embedded or on the platform.
  • Enhanced Interactivity: Interactive data exploration directly in embeds, with a clear path back to the full dataset for deeper engagement.

What’s Next?

We encourage you to explore the new embed tool today. If you’ve been using the legacy SDP or Grid View to generate embeds, you’ll find this update easier and more intuitive.
