March 2022 Platform Enhancements and Updates

Exploration Canvas on all Domains

We are excited to bring our new Exploration Canvas experience to all Open Data Domains as an option for interacting with datasets and derived views. The Exploration Canvas is an updated answer to the Grid View - taking tabular data exploration, data shaping, and derived view creation on our platform to the next level. By raising the standard for performance, functionality, and ease of use across these various activities, we envision a future where you’ll rely on it as your preferred data exploration and shaping surface.

Google Tag Manager Integration (Opt-in)

Site Admins will now be able to integrate an existing Google Tag Manager account with their Open Data Platform. Much like our existing integration for Google Analytics, the Google Tag Manager integration allows Google Tag Manager to collect data in aggregate about user behavior on a domain. See this article from digital.gov to read about how some Federal agencies are currently implementing GTM on their websites!

This feature will be available on an opt-in basis, so please reach out to your CSM or our Support Team, socrata-support@tylertech.com to unlock the GTM integration.

New SoQL function: get_utc_date

This new SoQL function that can be experienced in the SoQL Query Editor on Enterprise Data Platforms and leveraged in our SoQL API allows user to create queries that depend on the current time in UTC time zone. This now makes possible relative datetime queries through a combination of this new function and date math by referencing a “now” point in time, so you can create queries to answer questions like “what are the records from the past 30 days?”

Please see this support article for more details: Date and Time Transformation Overview

Data Federation for SoQL Views

With Data Federation for SoQL Views, public datasets created with the Exploration Canvas or the SoQL Query Editor (SoQL views) on your Data Platform are able to data federate with the rest of your domain’s data federated assets. This means users can now publish a SoQL View to their internal domain and their Open Data domain simultaneously if an outgoing data federation relationship exists.

Please see this support article for more details: Data Federation for SoQL Views

Grand Totals for Tables with Hierarchies

In 2021, we released the new table visualization in Perspectives Stories that gave more control over what columns and data were available. Iterating on this feature, we have added the ability for users to configure a grand total row to any table with hierarchies configured. Grand totals provide users with the ability to see both summarized and detailed data in a single view, allowing them to better understand the data and self-derived insight.

Brand Evolution

We have began our Tyler Technologies brand evolution process. This comprehensive branding evolution spans across all product suites in support of an increasingly cohesive and connected communities vision. You will see changes to naming conventions, typography, colors, and more. The purpose of these changes is to provide a more cohesive and consistent product experience for our customers. We’ll share more about the changes that you’ll experience in upcoming release communication.
