March 2023 Product Release

Interactivity in Perspectives Stories

We have released three new enhancements that will allow Story viewers to better interact and derive insights from the data.

Add or Hide Columns in Table Visualizations

Users can hide or add columns to display the most relevant ones, providing more interactivity and flexibility to Story pages. This flexibility allows different audiences with varying needs to use the same Story rather than building separate versions for each audience. This will save time and reduce clutter in the platform.

Export Data from Perspectives Stories

Users can now download data from any visualization within Stories, building on the previous functionality of downloading data from table visualizations. This enhancement empowers story users to answer questions, gain insights, and make data-driven decisions by removing barriers to accessing the data they need.

Date Included in Export from Perspectives Stories

Exports from Story Visualizations now include a date informing users when the data was exported. This is especially useful when data is exported from a specific Story page on different dates, since data can change over time.

Platform Updates

Location Change for Domain Level Color Settings

In the October 2022 Market Release, we added a new Stories and Visualization section in the Administration Panel, which allows administrators to configure fiscal year filter settings for their domain’s stories and visualizations.

We have now moved Visualization Color Palettes and Pickers from Site Appearance to the new Stories and Visualization section which makes it easier for Administrators to manage Story configurations and ensure consistency across the platform.

Ability to Adjust ArcGis Connector Asset Visibility Levels

Users can now adjust the visibility level for their ArcGis Connector assets. This allows users to bring in a wider variety of assets through ArcGis connectors and ensures these assets are only visible to the appropriate audiences.

Please see this support article for more details:

Filter To Archived Dataset

Now that dataset archiving is available on all domains, we are aiding administrators in the audit and maintenance of enrolled dataset by enabling “filter by archival enrollment”. This checkbox is available on the all assets page of Open Data Portals and Enterprise Data Portals.

Deprecations & Removals

Data Lens and the ability to create new Data Lens pages

On March 20, 2023, we will consider Data Lens deprecated and will disable the ability to create new Data Lens pages on domains. This means we will no longer invest in new Data Lens functionality or major bug fixes.

Perspectives Stories is a single, dynamic space to collaboratively tell a story or track a problem. With the improvements to Stories that we have made over the last couple of years, we believe that Stories offers a superior experience for your programs and citizens, compared to Data Lens, in terms of data exploration, reporting, and public engagement. Want to learn more? Check out this support article a side-by-side comparison of Perspectives and Data Lens.

Please see the Deprecation Roadmap for more details.

Dataset Backups (Snapshot) Removal

Dataset Archiving is officially replacing dataset snapshots! Dataset Archiving is now live on all domains, and provides a more accessible and complete history of changes for tabular datasets. Dataset Snapshots will no longer be available on the platform.

Please see this support article for more details about Dataset Archiving:
