Site Analytics Dashboard (Beta)

Summary

The Site Analytics Dashboard provides valuable domain insights at a glance, helping site administrators and program managers understand how their domain is being used, and how to optimize the value of domain content for users. The dashboard presents visualizations of data derived from your domain’s system datasets: four Site Analytics datasets (User Authentications, Asset Access, Catalog Search Terms, and Referrers) and the Asset Inventory dataset. These visualizations help draw focus to key aspects of domain performance, and assist with communicating relevant information to your data program’s stakeholders.

Below is a breakdown of the analysis in each section of the Site Analytics dashboard.

Data Analysis

Note: Every dashboard includes the same analyses, but some different visualizations are included based on the type of domain. Specifically, domains which include Performance Insights will see some additional Measures showing month-to-date information; domains without Performance Insights will see timeline charts in place of those Measures.

Traffic

Data in this section is derived from the Asset Access system dataset, unless otherwise noted.

  • Asset Views (non-API): The sum of all Primer page views, grid views, Story views, and visualization canvas views of all assets on the domain. On domains where Performance Insights is enabled, this is shown as a month-to-date total in a Measure card. On all other domains, this is shown as a timeline chart.

  • Downloads: The sum of all downloads of all assets on the domain. On domains where Performance Insights is enabled, this is shown as a month-to-date total in a Measure card. On all other domains, this is shown as a timeline chart.

  • API Calls: The sum of all API reads for all assets on the domain. On domains where Performance Insights is enabled, this is shown as a month-to-date total in a Measure card. On all other domains, this is shown as a timeline chart..

Assets & Access

Data in this section is derived from the Asset Access system dataset, unless otherwise noted.

  • Top 25 Assets (Month-to-Date): What are the most popular assets this month? This visualization shows the domain’s most-accessed assets within the current month by calculating the total of all access types for each asset on the domain. It can be filtered for specific access types or asset types.

  • Asset Access Over Time: How is asset access trending over time? This visualization depicts a timeline of the daily total of all asset access events on the domain. It can be filtered for specific access types or asset types.

  • Asset Access by Type (Month-to-Date): What types of assets get accessed the most? This visualization represents the total number of asset access events for each asset type, within the current month.

  • Access by User Segments (Month-to-Date): Which user segments are accessing domain assets the most, or the least? This visualization shows total asset access events within the current month, grouped by user segment (site member, community users, or anonymous user). Can be filtered by asset name to learn more about the user segments accessing your domain’s top 25 assets.

  • Access by Access Type (Month-to-Date): Which asset access method is the most common? This visualization shows total asset access events within the current month, grouped according to the access type.

  • Asset Creation By Type Over Time (Last 2 Years): Based on the Asset Inventory dataset, this visualization depicts trends in asset creation by month. Note that the data source does not reflect the creation of any assets that have since been deleted.

Data in this section is derived from the User Authentications system dataset, unless otherwise noted.

  • Monthly Active Users (Month-to-Date): This Measure calculates the total number of monthly active users (MAUs) within the current month. A monthly active user is defined as any user with 10 or more authentications to a given domain within a month. On domains which do not have Performance Insights enabled, this Measure is not included.

  • User Authentications (Month-to-Date): This Measure calculates the total number of user authentications within the current month. On domains which do not have Performance Insights enabled, this Measure is not included.

  • Monthly Active Users: This visualization shows the total number of MAUs by month, showing trends over time.

  • User Authentications Over Time: This visualization shows the total number of user authentications by month, showing trends over time. Filterable by User Segment.

  • Catalog Search Terms (Month-to-Date): Based on the Catalog Search Terms dataset, this table shows what users are searching for on the data platform, and defaults to sorting by the most popular search terms.

  • Top Users by Authentications (Month-to-Date): This visualization shows the individual users with the most authentications to the domain within the current month. All users are identified in this chart by a unique identification number, or User UID, with the format xxxx-xxxx.

    • If a given user is a site member on your domain, you can identify their account by appending their User UID to the following URL: http://[domain]/profile/[xxxx-xxxx]

Referrers

Data in this section is derived from the Referrers system dataset, unless otherwise noted.

  • Top 10 Referrers (Month-to-Date): This visualization shows the ten most common locations users are coming from when they access assets on the domain.

  • Top 25 Assets by Referrer (Month-to-Date): This visualization shows the locations from which users are arriving at the 25 most-accessed assets on the domain (excluding direct navigations to the asset URL).
